Apart from standard "page views," the MediaStorm tool sends custom events through Google Analytics that record media "plays," and every 10 percent of media playback progress. These are visible in the "Events" section of the GA interface once some data has started flowing in. This gives you a full view of how traffic is flowing wether from a website release or a player embedded on various locations on the internet.
The Events are specifically broken down as follows:
- Event Category: "media"
- Event Action: Either "play" or "progress-N-percent," where "N" is the numeric percentage in increments of 10
- Event Label: The Vimeo or YouTube URL of the relevant video
MediaStorm also sends a custom event for "404" errors, which makes it easier to identify broken links:
- Event Category: "error"
- Event Action: "error-404"
- Event Label: URL path that generated the error
Please note, in order to see this information, you will need to properly setup your MediaStorm Account with Google Analytics.
