Users can import podcast episodes into the MediaStorm Platform directly from the show’s RSS feed.
Episodes can then be packaged with the full suite of interactive experiences including video, slideshows, maps, timelines, playlists and covers.
They can also be packaged together with other episodes to form a complete show.
Podcast feed set up
The first step to importing podcast episodes into the Platform is setting up a new integration using the show's RSS feed.
Click on the Hamburger Menu > Integrations > New Integration
On the pop-up window that appears, click on Podcast and put URL of your RSS feed in the Feed URL filed.
Click Submit.
Your podcast will appear as a box along with your other integrations. If you need to delete or disable the integration for some reason, you can use the edit icon to open it and make those changes.
Importing episodes
Each podcast episode will be treated as a Media file inside The Platform.
To import them, navigate back to the Media window by clicking the Media icon, and then clicking the Add Media button.
When the pop up appears, click on the Podcast button.
A window will open allowing you which episodes you'd like to import. You can use the "Search episodes" field to narrow the list, if you need.
Use the checkboxes next to each podcast episode to select them and then click the Import Episodes button.
Your episodes will now appear at the top of you list of items in the Media window.
If you click name or icon of a episode, notice that it comes into the Platform populated with any metadata you have in your RSS feed.
You can make changes to any of this information as you would any other Media item and click the Save button.
These episodes can now be added to Titles and Releases like any other Media item, including packaging them together as a show.
Adding Annotations
You can add annotated pop-ups on the player progress bar that promote additional information such as images and links to each video via the Annotations tab.
Follow these directions to create them.
Creating a podcast show in a player
With your podcast episodes imported, you can package them together into a show using a Player release.
Click on the Releases icon to navigate to the Releases window and click the New Release button.
On the Create New Release pop up that opens, name your podcast player in the open field and select the Player button, then click the Create button.
Enter any metadata you'd like to add to the Release in the General tab, and then click the Save button.
To add episodes to the Release, click on the Content icon and then the Add Media button.
On the widow that opens up, use the checkboxes to select the episodes you want to add to the Player and then click the Accept button.
Your episodes will now appear in the player's content list, where you can drag to order them. Once complete, click the Save button.
You can now preview you Player by clicking the Preview button.
You podcast episodes will be packaged together in the Player release. You can play the main item on the stage using the Play button, and you can navigate between episodes using the top navigation drop down or the previous and next arrows on the top right and left of the main stage.
The information you added about each episode will appear on the left when you click the Menu button.
Publishing the Player
If all looks good, you can now publish the player by navigating to the Publish tab, selecting your Publish Destination and hitting the Save button. Then click the Publish button.
* Note: If you don't have any publish destinations set up, you'll need to do so. Please see this document about how to integrate the Platform with a Netlify Account to publish: Connect a Netlify Account
Adding an Interactive Cover
If you'd like to add an interactive cover to your podcast show player, as is shown in the Burner Face example at the top of this document, you can do so by following the directions here: Title Type: Cover
