Picture-in-Picture mode allows video or audio playback to continue uninterrupted while users navigate to other items in the release.
Coupled with annotations, this feature introduces powerful capabilities for contextualizing media with a rich variety of related content.
Enabling Picture-in-Picture
In order for an audio or video file to open in a picture-in-picture window the feature needs to be enabled on the media item.
This setting can be applied to individual items in a Release.
If you need information on setting up a release, start here: Releases Overview
Once you have a Release set up, you can navigate to it by clicking the Releases button from anywhere in the Platform interface and find the item in the list of Releases.
Click on your Release to open and edit it.
Click on the Content button to open the list of items included in the Release.
If you need to add the item, click the Add Media button to do so.
Find the Media item in the list of contents and click the gear icon to open its settings.
Find the Allow PIP checkbox in the settings options and check it and click the Save button.
Now when a user clicks on an annotation that links to an audio or video item hosted in the Platform, this item will open as a smaller picture-in-picture player on top of it.
To close the docked picture-in-picture item, click the blue X at the top right of the smaller player.
To return the original video to the main stage, use the browser's Back button.
Setting up Annotations
The Picture-in-Picture functionality relies on annotations.
